PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified natural rubber that can further enhance abrasion resistance while retaining processability, failure characteristics and a low heat loss property of a rubber composition by use thereof as a rubber component of the rubber composition. SOLUTION: The modified natural rubber is obtained by adding a polar group-containing monomer to a natural rubber latex, causing the polar group-containing monomer to graft-polymerize onto a natural rubber molecule in the natural rubber latex, coagulating and drying the latex and subsequently applying a mechanical shearing force to the rubber. Preferably, the means for applying the mechanical shearing force is a kneader, a dry pre-breaker or a twin-screw extruder. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
