Polyesters (PES) based on condensation products of terephthalic acid and/or its derivatives (TPA) with dihydric alcohols, in which the alcohols are selected to provide (a) from 40 to less than 90 mol% ethylene glycol (EG), propane-1,3-diol and/or butane-1,4-diol to (b) from 60 to more than 10 mol% alkane-1,2-diol other than EG, and the polyester (PES) has a melting point ( DIN EN ISO 53765) of 145-250[deg]C. Independent claims are included for (1) formed products made from PES as above, especially fibres or filaments (2) a method for the production of PES by reacting TPA with (a) and (b) in the above quanitites at 180-290 (preferably 180-270) [deg]C to give PES with a melting point of 145-250[deg]C .
