A time shift method and a television receiver are provided to make a buffer free when a broadcasting stream is not buffered in the buffer for longer than a predetermined time during a time shift operation to efficiently manage a time shift storage region. A time shift method includes a step of buffering a broadcasting stream in a buffer according to a time shift command(222), a step of counting the time for which the broadcasting stream is received(218), and a step of making the buffer free when the counted time is shorter than a predetermined time(220).
