PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst support for purification of exhaust gas which has high resistance to sulfur poisoning and can exert an excellent ternary activity in exhaust gas containing sulfur oxides, a catalyst for purification of exhaust gas using the support and a method of purifying exhaust gas using the catalyst.

SOLUTION: The catalyst support contains alumina particles having an alumina/titania solid solution layer in the vicinity of the surface and metal oxide particles containing a metal oxide having an oxygen-storing capability.
