PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve versatility of a vehicle tracking system by enabling the system to track the entire general passing vehicles. SOLUTION: The vehicle tracking system is an integrated system including three unit types: a plurality of image processing units 10 capable of imaging a passing vehicle; an onboard unit 30 mounted on a tracking vehicle 40 which tracks a tracking object vehicle 50; and a central unit 20 capable of data communication of vehicle information, including a vehicle registration number and an imaging position of the passing vehicle, with both the units 10, 30. In the plurality of image processing units 10 disposed in a various points, the passing vehicles are imaged, and piece of vehicle information of the passing vehicles are recognized from the obtained imaging data. In the central unit 20, the pieces of vehicle information of a multiplicity of the passing vehicles are stored, and from among the pieces of stored vehicle information of the multiplicity of the passing vehicles, the vehicle registration number of the tracking object vehicle 50 under tracking is retrieved. In the onboard unit 30, the vehicle information of the passing vehicle having the retrieved vehicle registration number is displayed, as vehicle information of the tracking object vehicle 50.
