PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for displaying an image, capable of improving a dynamic image response characteristic and a viewing angle characteristic. SOLUTION: In an active matrix type image display apparatus 10 which displays an output image through a liquid crystal display surface, a sample hold voltage of each pixel is rewritten with a high gradation voltage different from an input signal in one frame period of an input video signal through a data driver (source driver) 14. Then, a liquid crystal material corresponds to an effective value response responding to an effective value of a liquid crystal application voltage corresponding to the input video data of two or more frames.
