PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber for an elevator enhancing the versatility of shock absorbers and reduce cost. SOLUTION: A pair of broken-type link mechanisms 7 are opposingly arranged on a pit floor 1. One end of the both broken-type link mechanisms 7 is journaled to abutting metal 6 and the other is journaled to a base plate 4, so as to constitute a four-node parallel link mechanism 5 forming an approximately rhomboid shape as a whole. The pair of shock absorbers 9 sandwich the four-node parallel link mechanism 5 and are arranged opposing to each other. When an impact load for lowering the abutting metal 6 is input by a car 2, the respective shock absorbers 9 are pressed by intermediate connection parts 7a of the respective broken-type link mechanisms 7 to absorb the impact load.
