<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ciliary movement-activating agent which aims to increase ability to transport and discharge mucus produced from the respiratory tract and as a result, enhance biophybaxis ability to bacteria, foreign matters inhaled in the body, and a food or a beverage containing the agent. <P>SOLUTION: The ciliary movement-activating agent comprises one or more kinds of substances selected from a group consisting of plants of the genus Musa of the family Musaceae, Myristica fragrans, plants of the genus Citrus of the family Rutaceae, Symplocarpus foetidus, Acorus gramineus, Zanthoxylum americanum, Lycium chinense, Urtica dioica, Nelumbo nucifera, Sambucus nigra, Sasa veitchii and Crataegus oxyacantha and a group consisting of menthol, menthol derivative and menthol isomer as active ingredients.
