<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar illumination device capable of forming a large-sized illumination surface by serially connecting planar illumination units composed of an almost square-shaped light emission face, a light guide plate arranged on back face of the light emission face, and linear light sources arranged in grooves formed on a back face of the light guide plate in parallel with each other. <P>SOLUTION: The planar illumination device has a light source, a power source channel part supplying power to the light source, and a reflection body reflecting the light emitted from the light source. When forming a repeated structure, including the planer illumination device unit having the light guide plate guiding the light emitted from the light source to a light emitting face, in a direction running along the light source, the part of the light guide plate contacting with each other is shortened with a prescribed length. Preferably, a brightness distribution correcting means is added to a neighboring area where the light guide plates contact with each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
