<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of an in-plane switching mode wherein colors are balanced when viewed from front and slant directions. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device of the in-plane switching mode has an emission side polarizer having protective films on both surfaces thereof, a liquid crystal cell, an incident side polarizer having protective films on both surfaces thereof, a selectively transmissible optical element and a light source and further has one or two biaxial optically anisotropic plates between the emission side polarizer and the liquid crystal cell or between the incident side polarizer and the liquid crystal cell. An optical lamination plate is formed by laminating the protective film on the liquid crystal cell side of the emission side polarizer, the protective film on the liquid crystal cell side of the incident side polarizer, all of the biaxial optically anisotropic plates and the liquid crystal cell. The selectively transmissible optical element satisfies that (A): a lower limit λ<SB>L</SB>of a wavelength band reflecting light made incident at 0° incident angle is longer than the wavelength λ<SB>R1</SB>of light showing the maximum light emission intensity in 600 to 700 nm wavelength band, (B): average transmittance of light having 600 to 700 nm wavelength band and made incident at 0° incident angle is ≥60%, and (C): average transmittance of light made incident at 60° incident angle is 0.3 to 0.9 times as high as that at 0° incident angle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
