PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To equate the color appearance of a picture on an input device in a transmission side with that of an image on the output device in a reception side. SOLUTION: RGB data outputted from a transmission-side CRT monitor 3 is converted by a profile P<SB>1</SB>stored in a converter 11 into XYZ data. A viewing-environment conversion circuit 12 makes correction processing to the XYZ data, in accordance with viewing environments in the transmission side by referring to the detection signals from sensors S<SB>1</SB>, S<SB>2</SB>, and outputs thereof as L<SP>+</SP>M<SP>+</SP>S<SP>+</SP>data. A viewing-environment conversion circuit 15 makes correction processing to the L<SP>+</SP>M<SP>+</SP>S<SP>+</SP>data, in accordance with viewing environments in the reception side, by referring to the detection signals from sensors S<SB>3</SB>, S<SB>4</SB>, and supplies the obtained XYZ data to a converter 16.
