PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flywheel device enabling an increase in the changing width of the moment of inertia. SOLUTION: When the rotational speed of the flywheel device is moved from a low rotating area to a high rotating area, a clutch is disengaged by a control device 51. When an engine 52 is accelerated in Fig. b, a sun gear 22 starts to rotate planetary gears 23 relative to each other. Since the rotational speed of the sun gear 22 is higher than that of the planetary gears 23 during the acceleration, the rotation is advanced due to a difference in speed. Therefore, a weight 28 approaches the center of the rotation. The state of the weight 28 nearest the center of the rotation is shown in Fig c. In Fig. d, the clutch is engaged by the control device 51 to change over the flywheel device to a power transmission mode. Since the weight 28 can be disposed near the center of the rotation in Fig. d, the changing width of the moment of inertia can be increased. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
