PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple cylinder internal combustion engine and a control device thereof capable of limiting variation of operation characteristics among cylinders to the minimum by using single cylinder pressure sensor. SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine 1 includes four cylinders. Compression ratio of each cylinder is measured during manufacturing process, and the cylinder pressure sensor 2 is mounted on the cylinder of which compression ratio is closest to reference compression ratio. Since a map used for control of the internal combustion engine or estimation of cetane number is set based on the reference compression ratio, operation characteristics with little variation among the cylinders can be materialized by mounting the cylinder pressure sensor 2 on the cylinder of which compression ratio is closest to the reference compression ratio.
