The invention relates to a method for detecting a ground fault of a multi-strand energy supply cable (3) carrrying alternative current. The method consists in determining an average potential of the energy supply cable, entering the average potential or a variable derived from said average potential into an evaluation unit (7) and comparing the average potential or the variable derived form the average potential with a threshold value by means of said evaluation unit (7). The aim of the invention is to provide a method allowing the detection of grounding faults in a reliable and less expensive manner. To achieve this, the method is designed in such a way that a grounding fault is indicated once the value falls below the threshold. |
