The rail (1) has a guide surface (4), which stands in contact with a drive chain in a control chain drive of a combustion engine. A deformation device increases or decreases the pressure of the guide surface at the drive chain for adjusting thermally caused expansions in the drive chain and/or the chain drive. The deformation device forms a part of a support body (2). A sliding cover body (3) forms the guide surface and is connected with the support body. An independent claim is also included for a chain drive e.g. control chain drive, of a combustion engine of a guide rail.
