摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate having a layer with a varied refractive index which can freely be manufactured in a more simplified process, an electrooptical device and electronic equipment having such substrates, a manufacturing method for the substrate, and a manufacturing method for the electrooptical device. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device 20 has a piar of substrates 1 and 2, liquid crystal 4 sandwitched between the pair of substrates 1 and 2 and sealed with a seal material 3, and two dust-proof glasses 11 and 12. Multiphoton absorption is carried out by such irradiation with laser light that points of light convergence are formed in the pair of substrates 1 and 2 and the dust-proof glass 12 on the side where the light is made incident and modified layers 7, 8, and 13 having light shield properties are formed in the substrates 1, 2, and 12 in a frame shape enclosing a display region D.
