PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To constitute a steering gear for a vehicle capable of easily diagnosing displacement of a middle point when abnormality occurs due to displacement of the middle point which shows that a steering angle or steering torque of a steering angle signal or a steering torque signal is zero. SOLUTION: This steering gear for the vehicle to steer or to assist steering in correspondence with the steering angle signal and/or the steering torque signal detected and output by operating state detection means 7, 2 in accordance with the middle point detected by middle point detection means 1, 2, 7, 21 is constituted by furnishing the operating state detection means 7, 2 to detect the steering angle or the steering torque of a steering member 3 and the middle point detection means 1, 2, 7, 21 to detect the middle point showing that the steering angle or the steering torque of the steering angle signal or the steering torque signal detected and output by the operating state detection means 7, 2 is zero. It is also furnished with means 1, 22 to memorize hysteresis of the middle point detected by the middle point detection means 1, 2, 7, 21 and a display means 21 to display the memorized hysteresis.
