STEERING CONTROLLER FOR VEHICLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering controller for a vehicle which carries out the smooth operation of a handle even when the erroneous coupling of a backup clutch occurs by judging that the backup clutch is erroneously coupled while controlling steer-by-wire.

SOLUTION: The handle 1 and steering mechanism 8 are separated by the release of the backup clutch 4. The steering controller for the vehicle is provided with a steering reaction force controller 10 which outputs control command to drive a steering reaction force motor 2 to impart a steering reaction force corresponding to the steering state of the steering mechanism 8 and a steering controller 11 which outputs control command to drive a steering motor 6 to make a steering angle correspond to the operation state of the handle 1. A clutch coupling judgement means (Fig. 4) which judges that the backup clutch 4 turns coupld when the driving direction of the steering mechanism 8 is reversed with respect to the operation direction of the handle 1 while the steer-by-wire is controlled.
