PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving image reproducing apparatus capable of reducing the time until a different image is newly displayed by reducing the iteration of decoding from the top of a group of images as little as possible in reverse reproduction. SOLUTION: When trying to perform reverse reproduction, a reproduction control unit 105 determines a group of images required for decoding an image to be next displayed based on information of decoded frames stored in a frame memory 103 and requests a code input control unit 101 to input a code string of the group of images to a decoding unit 102. Furthermore, it requests an image display unit 104 to output, for display, a specific decoded image stored in the frame memory 103 as an image to be next reproduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
