PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make compatible a reduction in NOx and an improvement in output and fuel economy and sufficiently provide EGR flow and intake flow in a supercharged multi-cylinder engine. SOLUTION: This multi-cylinder engine comprises exhaust manifolds 9a, 9b divided for each cylinder groups the exhaust strokes of which are not overlapped with each other, intake manifolds 3a, 3b divided for each cylinder groups the intake strokes of which are not overlapped with each other, EGR passages 36a, 36b connecting the same cylinder groups to each other between the exhaust manifolds 9a, 9b and the intake manifolds 3a, 3b, means 23a, 23b preventing exhaust gases from reversely flowing between the exhaust manifolds 9a, 9b, and check valves 39 disposed at the bottoms of the EGR passages 36a, 36b.
