A method, apparatus and system provide a keyed email address ("KEA") framework designed to reduce SPAM. In one embodiment, a recipient's email server may generate and/or allow the recipient to generate and maintain various keys to authenticate incoming email for the recipient. These keys may be manually or automatically provided to various authorized entities. These entities may thereafter send email to the recipient, including the key, and the recipient's email account may verify the key as authentic and thereafter associate the key uniquely with the incoming email address or domain. Thereafter, if an incoming email includes this key, the email address or domain of the incoming email will also be checked to determine whether the email address matches the assigned key. If not, the email may be tagged as suspicious or potential SPAM. Incoming emails without keys and/or that do not respond to requests for keys may also be tagged as potential SPAM.
