PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change an operational state of a camera to a low power mode when it is detected that an object is approached by an access detection means. SOLUTION: If the object is detected by the access detection means at the time of a menu mode (S13), in an imaging apparatus which has a menu mode which displays a menu information (S13), an operating member input judging mode (S16) for judging whether an operation of a predetermined operating member is made and the low power mode (S15), it changes to an operating member input judging mode (S16). Furthermore, if it judges that there is no operation of the operating member in a time duration (t2) in the operating member input judging mode (S16), it will distinguish that the detected object is not an imaging person, and controls so that it may change to the low power mode (S15).
