PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording and reproducing device in which reproduction can be performed easily from a reproduction start position desired by a user, also recording capacity can be saved by erasing efficiently data having low possibility of reproducing and viewing. SOLUTION: In the data recording and reproducing device 100, the reproduction start position is recorded by a reproduction start position specifying means (CPU112, reproduction start position specifying program 115b), and reproduction is performed from the reproduction start position desired by the user by a first reproduction control means (CPU112, a first reproduction control program 115c). Also, when the reproduction start position is specified by the reproduction start position specifying means at the point of time at which data recording operation for a hard disk 71 is finished by a first erasing means (CPU112, a first erasing program 115d), video/voice data recorded in the hard disk 71 is erased.
