PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire side rubber that arises a previous warning of happening of an accident in a pneumatic tire caused by unusual heat generation by means of discoloration of the tire side rubber, as well as decreases air leakage of tire by reducing permeability of air through the side rubber. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for the tire side comprises (1) a 100 pts.wt. rubber component and (2) a 1-15 pts.wt. thermochromic short fiber obtained by melt-spinning of a vinylidene chloride-based resin composition containing a micro-encapsulated thermochromic particulate matter, and the rubber composition is applied to the tire side of a pneumatic tire.
