PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator capable of balancing pressure and appropriately starting a compressor when starting a cooling operation and capable of providing electric power saving effect by improving refrigeration efficiency of a refrigeration cycle by inhibiting temperature of a cooler from rising while the compressor is stopped. SOLUTION: The refrigerator has a refrigeration cycle 10 in which a compressor 11, a condenser 12, restrictors 13, 14 for freezing and cooling and coolers 6, 7 are connected in a loop, and is provided with a switching valve 15 for controlling a coolant flow to the respective restrictors, a bypass circuit 16 for connecting a discharge side and a sucking side of the compressor and provided with a first open/close valve 17, a second open/close valve 19 provided at a downstream side of a connection point with a bypass circuit of a discharge pipe 18 and a check valve 21 provided at a cooler side of a connection point with a bypass circuit of the sucking pipe 20 which is at a downstream side of respective coolers. While the compressor is operated, a refrigeration operation is conducted with the first open/close valve closed and the second open/close valve opened. Immediately after stopping the compressor, coolant distribution to respective restrictors is shut by the switch valve, the second open/close valve is closed and the first open/close valve is opened.
