The windscreen defrosting system comprises an inlet valve (10) guiding a defrosting fluid into a heating compartment and an outlet valve (20) for the release of the heated fluid. Inlet (10) and outlet valve (20) are both operated with electric drives moving pinions engaging with the teeth of toothed racks located at the valves (10,20) and connected to cylindrical sliding elements. Both valves (10,20) are accommodated in a single housing assembled of two shells (56,58) and sealed with a single unit (80) accessible through small windows (51). Independent claims are given for a windscreen defrosting system using the valve arrangement and a method for operation.
