PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ventilator for improving the convenience of a storage shelf installed above a heating cooking apparatus and securing safety against a fire. SOLUTION: The ventilator is installed above the cooking apparatus 1 and has the storage shelf 4 connected with a hood 3 above the hood 3 for collecting oily smoke generated at the time of cooking. Since the ventilator is equipped with an elevation driving part 9 for moving up/down the hood 3, an elevation position detection means 8 for detecting the position of the hood 3 and a control part for conducting the operation control of an air blower 5 for discharging the oily smoke to the outside and the elevation control of the hood 3 by the operation of an operation switch 12 provided at the cooking apparatus 1, the hood 3 can be moved up to be returned at a predetermined position in the case that cooking operation of the operation switch part 12 is conducted in a state that the elevation position detection means 8 detects that the hood 3 is lowered from the predetermined position.
