PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which improves the printing quality, without damaging the fixing roller. SOLUTION: In a fixing device 1, wherein heat and pressure are applied to a medium having a toner image transferred thereto, by a fixing roller 6 and a pressure roller 7 so as to fix the toner image, a separator plate 11 is disposed close to the fixing roller 6 and along the fixing roller 6 substantially along the entire lengthwise direction, and a separator plate 14 is disposed close to the pressure roller 7 and along the pressure roller 7 substantially along the entire lengthwise direction. The separator plate 11 is not brought into contact with the fixing roller 6; the space between the separator plate 11 and the fixing roller 6 is made shorter than a distance by which a front end part of a paper is spaced from the fixing roller 6; the front end part of the paper is slightly spaced from a surface of the fixing roller 6; and by having the front end part of the separator plate 11 enter the space between the front end part of the paper and the surface of the fixing roller 6, paper is separated from the fixing roller.
