PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inclination detector manufactured at a low cost and confirming the inclination state of a specimen simply by visual observation, and also to provide a meter box for a watt-hour meter equipped therewith. SOLUTION: The inclination detector 10 is being mounted for use on the specimen 12 to detect the inclination state of the specimen for a long time, and has a liquid agent storage part 4 for storing a coloring liquid agent 2 having prescribed viscosity, and a transparent part 8 to be colored involving a body 6 to be colored arranged on an upper part of the liquid agent storage part. The detector is characterized by holding the noncontact state between the coloring liquid agent and the body to be colored when the specimen is in the non-tilted state, and by coloring the body to be colored by bringing the coloring liquid agent into contact with the body to be colored when the specimen is tilted for a fixed time or longer.
