PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for expanding the utilization range of a water-soluble protein to a non-aqueous system and produce a hydrophobized modified protein soluble in a solvent having low polarity by chemically modifying a water-soluble protein. SOLUTION: The method for solubilizing a water-soluble protein in a low-polarity solvent comprises the bonding of a polyalkylene oxide group to the amino group of a water-soluble protein and the bonding of a hydrophobic group to the carboxy group of the protein in a polar organic solvent.
