PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching power unit which can suppress surge voltage generated in a rectifying element regardless of its operational direction. SOLUTION: When operating in normal direction, the first resonance circuit is composed of capacitors C5 and C6 in a surge voltage suppressive circuit 2 and an inductor Lr on high voltage side. Moreover, when operating in reverse direction, a second resonance circuit is composed of capacitors C5 and C6 and an inductor Lch on low voltage side. At both operations, the rise of reverse voltage applied to the diodes D10 and D20 in a switching circuit 4 becomes slow. Moreover, the maximum value of this reverse voltage becomes low, too.
