PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hollow composite yarn composed of filaments and staple fibers and having excellent water-absorption/antipilling property and remarkably light weight. SOLUTION: The yarn is an essentially non-twisted composite yarn composed of filaments and staple fibers and containing hollow filaments at the core part and staple fibers of synthetic fiber/semisynthetic fiber and/or natural fiber at the sheath part. The hollow filament of the core part accounts for 15-60 wt.% of the whole spun yarn, the staple fiber of the sheath part accounts for 40-85 wt.% of the whole spun yarn and the hollow retention ratio of the composite yarn composed of filaments and staple fibers defined by the following formula is≥80%. Hollow retention ratio (%)=[(hollowness of hollow filament before spinning)-(hollowness of hollow filament after spinning)]/(hollowness of hollow filament before spinning)×100. A cloth having texture with excellent springiness and stiffness can be produced by using the composite yarn composed of filaments and staple fibers. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
