PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for preserving wood effective against broad and various fungi and decay fungi at low cost even when used in a low concentration. SOLUTION: The composition for preserving wood comprises a compound represented by general formula (1) [wherein R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>4</SB>are each a 1-4C straight-chain or branched alkylene group and they may be the same or different; R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>5</SB>are each a hydrogen atom or same or different halogen atom, a lower alkyl group or lower alkoxy group; R<SB>3</SB>is a 2-12C straight-chain or branched alkylene group; R<SB>6</SB>is a 1-18C straight-chain or branched alkyl group; Z is a chlorine atom, a bromine atom, an iodine atom or OSO<SB>2</SB>R<SB>7</SB>group (R<SB>7</SB>is a lower alkyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group)] as an active ingredient.
