<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-balancing mount for a flat panel electronic display whose friction can stably be adjusted with a light physical burden. <P>SOLUTION: A device for mounting a flat panel electronic display includes a display mount assembly having a discontinuous bearing, the bearing being expandable radially responsive to an increased frictional biasing force. The biasing force is applied axially to the discontinuous bearing. The radial expandability assists in maintaining a desired amount of frictional engagement afforded by the discontinuous bearing.
