<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor which prevents decrease in the airtightness between atmosphere at the air side and that at the side of gas to be measured. <P>SOLUTION: The gas sensor 1 comprises: a sensor element 2 for detecting the concentration of specific gas in gas to be measured; an element-side insulating insulator 3 for inserting and holding the sensor element 2; and a housing 4 for holding the element-side insulating insulator 3 inside. The housing 4 has a tool fitting section 41 for fitting a mounting tool for mounting the gas sensor 1 to a measurement part at the outer periphery, and an insulator receiving surface 400 for receiving a step-like contacting section 300, provided at an outer-periphery section 30 in the element-side insulating insulator 3, is formed on the inner surface 40. The insulator receiving surface 400 of the housing 4, and the step-like contacting section 300 of the element-side insulating insulator 3 are engaged via a packing 5.
