PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device which moderates turning behavior of a steering wheel and stabilizes behavior of a vehicle when an abnormality occurs in a steering system. SOLUTION: When a VGRS_ECU 46 determines that abnormality occurs in an EPS motor 33, it determines a traveling state of a vehicle based on a vehicle speed V and a steering angleθ. If the vehicle speed V is not larger than a predetermined vehicle speed V<SB>0</SB>and the steering angleθis not less than a predetermined steering angleθ<SB>0</SB>, it controls a gradual operation of a VGRS motor 21 so that the steering wheel 11 gradually turns to the neutral position direction. On the other hand, if the vehicle speed V is larger than the vehicle speed V<SB>0</SB>and the steering angleθis smaller than the steering angleθ<SB>0</SB>, it controls the follow-up operation of the motor 21 so that left and right front wheels FW1, FW2 follow up the curved radius R. The turning behavior of the steering wheel 11 can be moderated and the behavior of the vehicle can be stabilized by switching the operation state of the motor according to the traveling state of the vehicle.
