PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor having a high capacity maintenance factor even when the capacitor is placed under a high-temperature high-humidity environment after a reflow-soldering and having a cost lower than conventional devices. SOLUTION: The electric double layer capacitor has a separator, a pair of polarizable electrodes oppositely arranged through the separator, and an electrolyte impregnated in a pair of the polarizable electrodes and the separator. The capacitor further has a packaging cover and a packaging case housing the separator, a pair of the polarizable electrodes and the electrolyte, and a gasket arranged between the side wall of the packaging cover and the side wall of the packaging case. In the capacitor, a housing space composed of the packaging case and the packaging cover is sealed hermetically by inwards bending the opening front end of the packaging case. In such an electric dipole-layer capacitor, an organic solvent electrolyte is used as the electrolyte, and the gasket is composed of a material mainly comprising a butyl rubber.
