PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a redundant and ring-shaped communications network which intercommunicates reversely, comprising a main subscriber and sub subscribers which communicate with each other using a data transmission device by surely transmitting data when a fault occurs, reducing a load to the main subscriber, and preventing a delay of a propagation delay time between the sub subscribers. SOLUTION: The sub subscribers use data transmission devices to directly communicate with one another and/or the main subscriber exchanges data to be exchanged between the subscribers in accordance with a transmission clock between connecting terminals of the data transmission device, so that communication is indirectly performed using the main subscriber and the data transmission device.
