PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of obtaining picked-up video without depending upon the dynamic range of an imaging device, and to provide a vehicle periphery visual confirmation apparatus. SOLUTION: A dimming means 23 which is divided to a predetermined area (pixel) and can control the light transmittance of an optional area (pixel) is provided in front of the image pickup element 22. The dimming means 23 applies a liquid crystal filter capable of performing dot matrix control, and controls the light transmittance of an area to display video on a display part 14 when there is a "white spot" or "block spot" area. When the light transmittance of a liquid crystal filter is defined as T% and the luminance value of a video signal to be picked up at this time is defined as S, the luminance value of a corrected video signal for displaying video is D is D=S*(100/T).
