The circuit (1) has a clock generator for generating system clocks in the form of clock periods, and a counter (10) for counting the periods decreasing in a time interval for determining a value of the interval. A latch chain (11a) determines a phase position of a start signal in the clock, where the start signal forms an origin of a measuring impulse, and another latch chain (11b) determines another phase position of a stop signal in the clock, where the stop signal forms an end of the impulse. A calculating unit (13) calculates the value from the determined periods and the phase positions.
