Soluble highly branched glucose polymers (I) with a reducing sugar content below 1% have more than 10% alpha-1,6 glucoside linkages, a molecular weight of 30000-200000 and an osmolality of 1-15 mOsm/kg are new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) production of (I); (2) compositions containing (I); (3) composition enriched in maltose and/or isomaltose comprising the low molecular weight fractions from the above process; (4) peritoneal dialysis solution containing (I) as osmotic agent.
