[Also in Divisions E2 and H2] A tubular closure member for a cable or pipe junction made of a heat-unstable material has split ridges 18, 20 which are held together by fasteners 30. The ridges are preferably necked and the volume of material in the narrow portion of the ridge may be less than that in the wider portion and the facing portions may be shaped, e.g. with longitudinal serrations (76) (Fig. 10, not shown) or with a vertical offset (42) (Fig. 3, not shown), to prevent longitudinal or radial slip between them, or they may be stepped to interlock with each other. The member may be made from an extruded tube having an inwardly extending ridge along which it is split and then turned inside out (Figs. 11, 12, not shown). The tubular member may vary in diameter along its length (Fig. 6, not shown) and may be in the form of a 90-degree bend (Fig. 8, not shown). It may be made from sheet material having integral protuberances along the edges of opposite sides. Details of processes for making the member from material capable of having an elastic memory are given. |
