The machine has a ballast plow (7) attached to a machine frame. An ejection end (10) of a ballast conveyer belt (9) is arranged above the plow. A ballast deflection device (17) is arranged between rail covers (16) and underneath the end. The device extends in a longitudinal direction of the covers and/or rails (3). The device is shiftable by a drive (21) from a position (23) to a working position (24). A shifting width (b) of the device in the working position is three times as large as a width in the position, where the shifting width runs normal to the direction and parallel to the covers.
