A pneumatic tire (1) comprises a sidewall reinforcing rubber (9) disposed axially inside the carcass (6) in each of the sidewall portion (3), and in order improving the ride comfort during normal running without deteriorating runflat performance, the axially inner surface of the sidewall reinforcing rubber (9) is provided with a circumferentially extending groove (10). When the tire is deflated, the groove (10) in the ground contacting patch is closed and the sidewall reinforcing rubber (9) supports the tire load. When the tire (1) is inflated normally, as the sidewall portion (3) can be bent around the groove (10), the ride comfort is improved.
