According to the invention t here is provided a system for determining a liquid level of a conductive liquid in a tank of a fuel cell, wherein the tank includes a sealed housing. The inventive system is characterized in that the sealed housing is of symmetrically shape and includes a central volume enclosing a geometric center of the housing; a first electrode and a second electrode are positioned within the sealed housing and extend with their distal ends into the central volume of the sealed housing; and a signal detector is provided which is electrically connected to the first and second electrodes, wherein the signal detector is adapted for (i) applying a weak current to the first and second electrodes and (ii) determining whether a circuit is completed between the first and second electrodes.
