A negative active material for a rechargeable lithium battery, a method for preparing the same, and a rechargeable lithium battery including the same. The negative active material includes a metal or metal alloy that is liquid at or near room temperature when alloyed with Sn, and Sn. The negative active material can provide a battery having excellent cycle-life characteristics.
