A cylinder head for a reciprocating pump, e.g. for abrasive or corrosive liquids, comprises an unmachined metallic casting 16 having inlet and outlet ports 17, 18, and inlet and outlet valve members 28, 31, e.g. of metal or ceramic, spring-loaded against seats 26, 30 of plastics material, the valve members being of harder material than the valve seats, the seats being located by valve cages 25, 29<SP>1</SP> of plastics material, and the cages being located by plastics inserts 22, 23 in the head cavity 21. The plastics inserts are held in position by the cylinder block 11 and liner 13, on which the head is bolted. Sealing rings 20, 24, 33, 35 and 37 provide sealing between the unmachined surfaces of the head casting and adjacent components. Liner 13 may be of ceramic or metal.</p> |
