Functionalised material and production thereof

A Polymer-cluster composite comprising nanoclusters embedded in a polymer matrix is proposed, wherein the polymer-cluster composite comprises an at least partially functionalised surface. A process and apparatus for producing such a cluster-polymer composite are also presented. The composite is formed by concurrent plasma-assisted polymerisation from polymer precursors and deposition of clusters onto a substrate. The plasma assisted polymerisation is controlled so as to achieve at least partial functionalisation of a surface of the composite.
