A sheet feeding apparatus and a recording apparatus are provided to efficiently transfer a sheet by performing arrangement of central line and adjustment of inclination with respect to a width of the sheet while the sheet is transferred. A feeding unit(150) feeds a sheet from a cassette. A reference member(4) has a reference surface(4a) for regulating a position of a side end of the sheet transferred in a predetermined transfer direction by the feeding unit(150). A transferring unit transfers the sheet toward the reference surface(4a) slantly with respect to the transfer direction so that the side end of the sheet is contacted with the reference surface(4a). A moving unit selectively moves the reference member(4) in response to the installation of the cassette so that the reference member(4) is positioned correspondingly to a width of the sheet received in the cassette.
