A method for controlling the record and reproduction of an optical disc is provided to efficiently prevent the optical disc from being reproduced in another device by storing disc play information about the optical disc in a host in recording operation and allowing the host to provide the disc play information about the corresponding optical disc to an optical disc device in reproducing operation. A control unit performs recording operation for an inserted optical disc(S10-S12). The control unit stores disc play information generated according to the execution of the recording operation in a memory(S20,S21). When the recording operation is completed, the control unit transmits the stored disc play information and disc identification information to a host(S30,S31). The host links and stores the disc play information and the disc identification information in an internal storing device(S32).
